Mounir Saouma of Lucien Le Moine Organizes Extraordinary Auction Lot to Support Institut Curie and Cancer Research

Mounir Saouma of Lucien Le Moine in Burgundy is, once again, on a mission to raise a significant amount of money for the Institut Curie. Built in 1920 by Marie Curie, The Institut Curie in Paris is one of the top leaders of research in the world and is celebrating 100 years of researching, teaching and treating cancer this year. In honor of this milestone, the amazing Mounir has organized an absolutely extraordinary direct-from-the-producers lot of wines to auction (beginning now through Friday, February 15, 2019), in addition to offering a personal tour and tasting of 16 Grand Crus from Clos de Beze to Montrachet at Lucien Le Moine. Through this auction lot and the generosity of wine lovers, Saouma is hoping that this effort can support the important work done to save lives.

Collectors have the opportunity to reach out directly (contact: afaden@vintus.com) to bid on the entire lot. There is currently an offer of 80 000 €, but they are not stopping there in an effort to receive higher bids. If they are not satisfied with the best offer on Friday, February 15, at 4pm French time (10am EST), they will consider auctioning the lots individually. Time is of the essence!

The comprehensive offering is below.

Grand Cru Road Trip and Jeroboam Jaw-Droppers Entice in Burgundy/Curie Cancer Benefit Auction

We are so grateful to our friends at Wine Spectator for raising awareness of Mounir Saouma’s wine auction to generate much needed money for the Institut Curie.

The writers of WS explain it ever so eloquently, here:

“Mounir Saouma has earned a reputation as a talented vigneron over the past two decades, establishing Burgundy’s Lucien Le Moine and Châteauneuf’s Rotem & Mounir Saouma as benchmark houses in regions where that can take hundreds of years. But he’s also an ardent advocate for cancer research, and this week, he’s united his passions in an epic charity auction to benefit the Institut Curie in Paris—the lab founded by Marie Curie herself.

On the block: a morning ramble through grands crus from Clos de Bèze to Montrachet, with 16 stops to taste along the way and wines from Echézeaux, Clos de Vougeot and Musigny in the mix. Bottles up for grabs—all procured by Saouma directly from the wineries—include a Salmanazar (that’s 9 liters) of Lucien Le Moine Romanée-St. Vivant 2007, imperials (6 liters) of 2015 Ornellaia and J.F. Mugnier Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru Clos Maréchal Rouge 2008, and Jeroboams of gems like ’96 Pétrus, 2007 Cristal and the rare white Margaux Pavillon Blanc 2012.

“Remember why we do this,” Saouma told Unfiltered via email. “Fighting with wine against cancer.” The bidding has surpassed more than $90,000 so far, but interested players can still submit bids before 4 p.m. Burgundy time on Friday, Feb. 15. Get more details here or by emailing llm@lucienlemoine.com.”

Wine Auction of Rare Bottles to Raise Money for Cancer Research

Leading luxury publication Departures is tapping into their network of affluent readers in hopes of generating additional bids for Mounir Saouma of Lucien Le Moine’s wine auction to raise major money for cancer research at Institut Curie. Founded in 1920, Marie Curie’s institute will be celebrating 100 years of research and education in 2020. The detailed story outlines the full list of wines in the lot from the world’s most collectible producers, along with a one-of-a-kind experience at Lucien Le Moine in Burgundy with Saouma.  The writer adds that “The bidding is currently at $90,250––if Mounir Saouma of Lucien Le Moine and the Institut Curie are not satisfied with the bids, they will consider auctioning off each element of the lot separately in an effort to raise more funds. Remember: All of the money raised will be going toward cancer research, treatment, and education.”

Burgundy’s Mounir Saouma Hosts Charity Auction Celebrating Marie Curie

Wine Spectator’s Unfiltered announced that Mounir Saouma, proprietor of Lucien Le Moine and Rotem & Mounir Saouma, is hosting an online charity auction in honor of the 100th anniversary of France’s Institut Curie, the world-renowned cancer research institution founded by Marie Curie in 1920.

Interestingly, Saouma’s critically acclaimed Burgundy and Rhône wines will not be for sale. Rather, the auction will feature “a collection of artworks inspired by the legendary Poland-born French physicist and chemist who pioneered the science of radiology.” The piece shares details about a few of the specific auction lots, as well as information on how to place a bid.”

“Bidding is now open for the 16 works of art from 14 artists representing 12 countries, with 100 percent of the auction proceeds benefiting Institut Curie, which today has a staff of more than 3,700 researchers and doctors treating patients at the school, research center and two hospitals. All of the artwork is currently on display at Saouma’s Burgundy property, and starting bids range from €4,000 to €20,000; visit art-for-curie.com to view all of the works up for sale.”
