Timeplace Wine Co
Zinfandel 2017
Lodi, California
Winemaker Jamey Whetstone spent a decade working for Turley, where he built his knowledge and passion for Zinfandel. He is dedicated to preserving Zinfandel’s place in the pantheon of great California wines by bringing out the fresh fruit, bramble, and savory characteristics that make Zinfandel such a unique varietal.
Vineyard
The Suss Vineyard (pronounced like ‘cease’), is 95-year-old head trained Zinfandel in Victor, California. The site is next door to Kirschenmann Vineyard, owned by Tegan Passalacqua. Timeplace gets half of these ten acres. The site is meticulously farmed by Markus and his team, this wine is bottled as a single-vineyard in order to fully express the distinct personality of this place.
Winemaking
Destemmed, stainless tank fermented with gentle pumpovers twice daily, indigenous primary and secondary fermentations, aged in 10% 2-year-old French oak barrels for 8 months sur lees.
Tasting Note
A perfect spectrum of all the flavors Zinfandel can express, this wine offers more herbal savory fruit flavors, like dried pomegranate, licorice, white pepper, rosemary and bay/sage, all punctuated by a dollop of fresh strawberry jam in the mid palate.
Food Pairing
Timeplace Zinfandel pairs well with rosemary-rubbed lambchops, grilled potatoes, and richly spiced foods, like brisket barbecue, thai chili wings, or curry.
